Default How long do brakes last?

my back right started squeaking last night and still is today a little. I’m going to try cleaning it off first but was wondering how many miles you’re getting and if they can be serviced at any shop or need the dealership

Well after doing some reading I wound up on a BMW website where a bunch of people were saying how common it is in beamers and to go 60mph then slam on the breaks a few times to get them nice and hot. So I did this. Guess the friction build up heats the pads nicely causing the microvibrations to stop and now no noise and breaks nicely.

Rear brakes can only be done with a diagnostic tool, parking brake needs to be released to retract the pistons.

Meaning it can or can’t be done at a shop?

Brakes should last a long time if you aren't hard on them. Easily 60K even for the front. Dirt or dust will make them squeal but it should go away with some driving. Also, after you wash it, it might squeal a bit, especially in reverse.

I would be amazed if you got 60k miles from the brakes on these cars. They are big and heavy and the brakes are quite soft to give strong braking performance. My LR4 used to get about 18k for pads. It ate tires too. The Disco V is materially lighter but I would guess many of us will be in the 20-25k range if you use it in start stop around town. Maybe more for freeway driving

I spoke to GAP. They are testing with a 2018 Velar to see if they can release the park brake for service.

illl report back when I hear from them.

Agreed. Mine was mostly highway with my LR4 so I squeezed into the 30k miles.

Would not be surprised if the D5 will not last more than 35-40k miles.

Next question, how much does break replacement at LR cost?
