Default Key fob problem

The key fob for our 2017 Discovery was placed on the roof of my car, and I managed to drive down the street without realizing it was there. Long story short, I found it 2.5 hours later in 3 pieces, the black part with the buttons (intact), the key, and the metal side cover. It had been run over but the buttons still work to lock the doors, unlock, open the trunk etc, but the keyless entry no longer works and the Discovery can't be started with it. Would a simple reprogramming at dealership fix this? I'm hoping I don't have to spend $800 to get a new one. On the upside, the key fob is very durable, the back of the plastic is scratched up a bit but I expected to find it crushed beyond repair.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune...But are you serious about 800 for a new remote? I have bought a couple for other cars in the past, but never spent over 80-90 bucks!
I would call LR....OR.... I bet it might be covered under your comprehensive insurance coverage at least... minus your deductible of course.

Sounds like the immobilizer chip is broken, hence the no start. I doubt programming will help.

you need a new one.

FYI, was at my dealer this AM and asked pricing on a fob, they said under $400.

I've left mine on the roof a couple of times too, along with my cell phone....

I found carabiners work great for clipping the fob to a belt loop.

Did that include programming?

I didn't ask. Probly not. I cant imagine it would be that hard though...It does a very limited function compared to my other vehicles with remote start etc. My Denali would do remote start-open the windows-heat the seats-close the windows....

A customer was recently quoted $170 for programming on a D2!

Ask the dealer but for improved vehicle theft security many newer JLR vehicles need a new keyless module and 2 new keys that are paired. They don't let you replace just one key. Not sure on your model but dealer will advise

I did a KVM on an LR4 recently and was able to code a new key and the old one.
