low coolant
hi, im new to this forum.
i own the discovery 5 - V6 since 2017 and after 2 years i started getting warning on the dash -low coolant.
it was still under warranty so at the dealer they checked it for more than 7 times in the past 2 years and till now they couldnt identify the problem, they changed the raidator, the pipes, the sensors etc....
still once a month and sometime twice (if during summer) it pop up on the screen and i have to fill the side coolant tank and is always empty, not low but totally empty.
now the warranty is finished and im still facing the same problem.
not sure if any one faced such an issue.

There could be 2 things that come to my mind:
- check the oil level if it increases ( coolant may sip in and therefore raising the level of oil - aka OIL DILUTION) - doubt it, but is a start point
- add a dye (UV colorant in the coolant) drive it, and then with a UV lamp, see where you may spot the colorant / dye. You may have a hair crack - I suspect around exhaust area - and it simply evaporates.
Find a good mechanic (outside of the dealership) and get a honest opinion.
If none of those check out, if it was me, I would get rid of the car. Best of luck to you.

2 places worth checking. 1st take a light and look down into the engine around the oil filter. I could smell coolent and but nothing was running down at the time. I had a leak there at the cross over pipe. Also look at the back side of the radiator down at the bottom of the fan. I noticed a small leak when I was doing a pressure test. After speaking with a friend who owns a independent LR shop he has had 3 come in similar issues. 2017 ScV6
Bringing this back up to see if ever got this resolved or found the issues. Our 2017 is also giving that “low coolant” message. I’ve refilled the reservoir twice in 6 months. I can sometimes smell coolant but there is nothing leaking that I can find. I need to purchase a boroscope and check on that crossover pipe but was looking for some guidance from others in a simile situation. Thanks.
If you need to refill the reservoir it's definitely leaking. Would track it down in case it's a crack that fails and leaks fast - overheating these engines can kill them fast...
Auto shops have a coolant pressurizing system that should be able to quickly find the issue. You might get lucky and see white residue near the leak yourself - but so much of the cooling system can't be seen easily that you're better off having it done properly
