I don't know, somehow responding to a different thread and got a bit confused, I'll blame it on Covid19 or Russian "Special Operations" for now. When you have no excuse, any excuse will do...

I usually go with light from Venus reflected off swamp gas in my moments of confusion.

I sadly was curious & double checked. No issues manually closing the trunk tailgate. I found this quite interesting from the manual:

If the tailgate is closed manually, the vehicle searches for a valid smart key at the rear of the vehicle. If a valid smart key is not detected within 39 in (1m) of the rear of the vehicle, or a smart key remains inside the vehicle, the tailgate re-opens and an audible warning sounds.
​​​​​​​I think it's saying no peons can close the trunk!
