Default Motion Activated Liftgate Hates My Garage

My 2020 Discovery Landmark has the "hands free" rear hatch. When outside, one must often perform a river dance to get the damn thing to open, regardless of the daytime lighting. Yet, when parked in my relatively dark garage the thing pops open if I walk anywhere near the back of the SUV. This is a problem since there are low-hanging overhead obstructions. I know I can set the opening height. But doing so to avoid obstructions would lower the opening height too much.

On a related subject, the hatch seems much more receptive to the hands free process when another door is open (not just unlocked). Is this coincidence or built in?

Finally, depending on which option I use to open the hatch - dashboard switch, key fob, hatch exterior push button - the "interior" hatch door - that little barrier at the end of the cargo area - either goes down or stays upright. Is this also programmed?

I can answer the final question: When you open the tailgate with the kick gesture the interior hatch door will unfold to the open position.
It will not unfold to the open position when using the pushbutton on the tailgate or the dashboard switch. It will always fold by itself when you close the tailgate using any switch or kick gesture.
It can also be unfolded and folded using the switch on the left panel of the cargo area.

That actually makes some sense. If using the kick gesture, it assumes you are putting something in and therefore lowers the gate. Otherwise, it stays up to prevent things from falling out.
