Default Resale Value

Anyone considered trading their D5? I just found out our nearly $80K new 2019 HSE Lux with 80K on the clock is only worth $22K.

Our 7yr 100K will last thru the next year [miles] but thought having an even short transferable extended warranty might butter the resale skids a bit. Nope.

This a normal LR thing? This our first and just because of crappy service dept will be our last. Sad, cuz we really like the vehicle.

LR's typically have significant depreciation. I do all the maintenance on mine & plan on keeping it till (hopefully) 150k+ miles.
Most of the issues out there are known - leaky windshield, crossover pipes, window regulators etc. All are fairly easy to DIY and saves you quite a bit.

This must be your first Land Rover. Yes they depreciate like hell. Key is finding the sweet spot of mileage/price in the depreciation curve and buying there. Lower mile examples - even pre facelift - seem to have ticked up slightly this year. Facelift D5’s seem to be holding value decently. I would never buy a luxury vehicle much less a Land Rover with any expectation of holding value unless you buy it at the bottom of the curve. Also trade values/offers are typically several thousand less than private party sale values fwiw.

The only LR that comes close to holding a decent value is the Defender. I honestly didn't think anyone actually bought these new. The depreciation is so bad I just assumed everyone leased the new ones or bought used ones. About the only car that depreciates worse than a LR is an electric one.

Yup first LR.

My Pepper lost $30K in 4. Our Audi lost $30K in 4. Bad enough but I expected it going in.

This Landrover? $56.5K in 5. That's pathetic.

But, again, we do like the vehicle. Everything else is the too bad part.

I bought my 2018 HSE Lux in Nov 2022 with 37k miles on it and new tires. $76k sticker price for $42k + taxes. Someone else are the 44% depreciation 😁 seemed to be a sweet spot on depreciation without it being too old. Also was about $20k-30k cheaper than a 110 at the time

My local dealer has a 2024 with 3000 miles for almost 20k off sticker. Idk what these actually sell for new but I’d imagine 10k off sticker wouldn’t be unexpected.

I paid $58K for my 2017 HSE Si6 with $68K sticker price when it was 1 year old and 13K miles from an LR dealer.

I just traded my 2017 Td6 with 103k for $10,500.

Total beating, tbh. Considering that in the past two years I'd put nearly $7k in repairs to the emissions system.

Not for the feint of heart.

I recently traded my 2018 TD6 with 67k miles for $17k at dealer. Very disappointing but they effectively cannot resell a diesel here in CA so that must be the discount needed to delete the DPF and then sell it in TX (or MX).

Don't know if this is useful data point but I spent annual totals as follows on service (all dealer) $2100, $1800, $3500, $4000, $3700, $4600 excluding tyres, self-inflicted damage etc.total approx $20k. That also does not include the 2 DPFs, 1 full exhaust system, sensors, nozzles etc. that LRNA paid for over the last couple of years under emissions warranty. So cost of ownership just under $13k per year over 6.5 years, not including consumables, insurance, fuel, road tax..

Replacement is a 2022 P360 (gas of course) with 34k miles and someone else's depreciation on the clock..We also acquired a beautiful 2000 F-350 dually diesel for towing (no software restricted modes!) but that's another thread. Miss the TD6 road time but not the shop time.
