Step by Step How to Reset the Service Interval
#11
The service interval was automatically set for 8000 miles or 1 year intervals on the Td6 - so I think they are missing something. Also note on LR Edison site that you need to bring in for brakes, oil changes, tires, etc. in addition to the 15,000 mile service interval they cite. The generic sites are just that - generic and are not necessarily meeting Land Rover requirements - like the 21,0000 mile service interval they cite in a couple of instances. Since I was used to changing oil every 3-5000 miles I don't have a problem changing at an 8000 mile interval and ensuring the integrity of my vehicle. I do not have (the overblown) oil dilution issue and the 8000 mile interval was discussed from day one when I picked up my vehicle at the dealership. They even put the reminder sticker on the vehicle when new - so I feel fairly confident that 8000 miles is the desired service interval unless someone can provide greater detail from Land Rover. The first oil change was accomplished with a vacuum extractor at the dealership and the extraction point is on the top of the engine (passenger side) and looks like an out of place dipstick with a black twist cap - I helped do the work at the dealership to learn how it is all put together. Untwist the cap, attach the hose, and start the vacuum. I originally was going for the gravity drain for at home, but this is so much easier and cleaner when you have to deal with the skid plate, getting underneath the vehicle, and stray oil on the floor and you. I purchased my own vacuum canister (about $35 on Amazon) and will use it next time - wish I bought one of these earlier. The filter is in the top center under the plastic engine cover and requires a 32mm socket to remove the oil filter housing. Pretty straight forward process - no muss no fuss.

Which vacuum canister did you buy? I was planning to buy the Mityvac 7201 because of the 8 plus liter capacity but it is more than $35 so I'd be interested to hear which model you are getting for $35 and how you plan to deal with the 8 plus liters of oil (mine's a gas Disco, maybe the TD uses less oil?)

I was wrong on the price - I picked it out and the wife purchased on Amazon. It was actually $50 and we purchased the Topsider MVP which holds 8 quarts. The Td6 only holds 6.3 liters of oil, so this works for me, but I noticed that the Si6 uses a few more liters of oil which means you would have to empty the container and continue extracting with the Topsider.

This worked on my 2017 D5 HSE Si6 today.
Only comments to add: Almost impossible to pull hood release while door is closed. I raised the steering wheel, pushed back the seat, and opened the window, then could barely reach.
Also, for my Si6, Service Interval reset to: 16150 miles.
I'm going to try it again with the door open.

I tried it again today and confirmed that it worked with the driver door open.
So I've cut and pasted the instructions below and edited them to reflect the open driver's door.
This is for 2017 D5 HSE Si6.
1 - sit in the drivers seat with driver door open and hood closed
2 - push the ignition button once, no foot on the brake, we do not want to start the vehicle (called position 2)
3 - pop the hood with the hood release
4 - hold (depress) the gas and brake pedal for 60 seconds (mine indicated Service Resetting, then Service Interval Reset after about 30 seconds)
5 - release the gas and brake pedal
6 - check the display - it should have reset (mine indicated a service interval of 16150 miles)
7 - push the ignition button to turn off your ignition
8 - close the hood

End up in dealership clearing the service indicator. I was billed for half hour labor just for the reset.
I am thinking about buying a OBD tool for future resetting. Any chance you had used any for LR?
