TD6 = Awesome
This SUV never fails to impress me. Just got back from a 4K+ Mile 7 state road trip. Loaded with family and gear, we averaged over 32MPG. Completely faultless over the entire trip including many off-road miles in 100+ degree heat. What a vehicle!
The TD6 is the vehicle I'm most interested in right now. Where I live diesel is cheaper than gas, so you get a double bonus on the fuel efficiency front.
I am a bit hesitant given the DPF problems some folks are experiencing with the engine. Any one heard if LR us any closer to figuring those out

my research has indicated they rarely present issues in cars driven decent hwy miles, and or that tow a lot. Also frequent oil changes and fuel filter changes help dramatically. If you drive short city trips and stick to the extended factory oil change interval good luck!

I'm not even that worried about the expense. If there was a one time fix that cost the same as the DPF change, I wouldn't be upset to do it proactively. I just don't like not knowing. (Edit: I lied. I checked another forum thread and the owner said that it was 8k to have the filter changed. That's probably a bigger chunk than I'd be willing to shell out up front proactively to address a possible problem).
Still, it's such an intriguing vehicle for long distance adventure with a family.

I've gotten about 55k on my TD6 and I agree it is awesome. I have not experienced the dilution issues, but I donchange oil every 5k miles. I also tow a 6500lb boat often and drive on the highway a reasonable amount of time. But you're not going to get guarantees on any used car. I don't understand why the td6 was discontinued, even Ford has stopped putting it in the f150.
I picked up a 2017 Td6 with 61k miles in early june and I absolutely love it. Just got back to RI after towing my opus camper to the outer banks, 2000 miles round trip and never skipped a beat. I averaged 22mpg towing and 27.5 normally. I've done 8000 miles since June with no problems and have been able to do all regular maintenance myself. Such a pleasure to drive
No one’s believing you have an Opus unless there’s visual evidence!
