TD6 5th gear issue. Anyone else?
Hi all,
Well, I did the unthinkable and purchased a 2017 TD6 with 97k miles on it. It was a creampuff, with only one previous owner, and had regular maintenance. The previous owners were an elderly couple who mainly drove it cross country.
I am in the first week of ownership and have now noticed a pattern. When the car is cold and accelerating, upshifting as it gains speed, once it gets to the 5th gear, I experience hesitation and a pulsating and jerking from the drivetrain.
I reached out to ZF USA, and they advised me to do a drain and fill to check on the condition of the transmission fluid. I also contacted the dealer and was able to get some goodwill from them. They told me to drop it off tomorrow for them to check it out. I will keep you posted, but I wanted to see if anyone else here has experienced anything similar.
Thank you in advance.

No harm in changing out the fluid anyway. In general these ZF transmissions are v reliable. Have you used a code reader to pull codes from the car? And any warning lights or messages, restricted performance warnings etc?
Hi, thanks for the reply. I do not have any stored or present codes. No check engine light.
I agree the ZF transmissions are stout. Joe at ZF of USA suggested I check the fluid and speculated that maybe 5th gear solenoid is experiencing mechanical failure.
First though he said to change and inspect the fluid.
Cheers
