Td6 sputtering and surging when cold
Has anyone else experienced sputtering and surging ( like your running out of fuel ) with the TD6?
I find it happens in the first 10 min of driving under mild throttle, or even with cruise control on. It is always before it reaches operating temperature. The surging can get pretty bad. Applying more throttle will help. My Disco is in the shop now and they can't seem to replicate it. I now have a loaner Disco and it has done it to me once in that Disco as well. I imagine it has a little to do with driving style but how odd could it be if it has happened while on cruise. RPMs are usually between 1500 and 2000 in standard drive mode. Speed is usually around 30-40 mph

I'm not sure how this software update works. Is it a single engine management software or would there be specific updates for many of the different properties? The reason I ask, is I have had updates on my 2018 in hopes of curing the nasty turbo lag when you slow and punch it before left hand turns. Now that I'm in a 2019 loaner, with I imagine up to date software I don't know if that is it. Unless there is a specific update for this issue? Any ideas? Of course the dealer seems to have never heard of this issue.
Not a diesel guy, but in gas fired Jag engines, it was typical of sticking temperature sensors. ECU thinks it is warm outside, doesn't enrich for the cold start . . . and vice versa if stuck the other way . . . over enriches thinking it is cold. Crappy performance until it heats up. And if it is software, the interface to the sensor has a bug (what? software has bugs!!!?).
OBTW: where are you located?

Do you ever get the reduced performance light? I would have them check the intake air connector at the engine. I was having a bunch of weird issues and found the fitting was loose and allowing air leak past.
Hi MuDisco,
How cold was it when this happened? I experienced this once in 15 degree weather where the vehicle was sitting out for 24 hours. It was attributed to diesel fuel gelling. I don't normally drive in these conditions so I haven't had the problem since. If it is happening in non-freezing situations then I would say there is something else going on.

@MudDisco Reviving the 2019 thread. I have a 2018, Recently purchased, same issue. Happy I found this discussion. Disco is lurchey when warming up, at slow speed acceleration. Foot off the gas, or punching it seems to trick it. Problem disappears when warm. Did you figure out a resolution to your problem?
