Hey everyone. Quick question. So, my Discovery has a sensor in the thermostat housing (I believe all 2017 and up have them). Does anyone know what its purpose is? To my knowledge, all L405, L494 and L462 have two coolant temperature sensors. One in the rear crossover pipe and one in the front hose near the thermostat.
My 2014 L405 does NOT have the sensor in the thermostat housing itself so is this additional sensor just another temperature reading? Does it control thermostat operation? It seems redundant to have 2 temp sensors so close to each other but who knows. Let me know if anyone knows exactly what its purpose is. Picture below for reference. Thanks!

Mine is gas. After doing some research, it is actually not a temperature sensor. It is a heating element that heats the wax inside the thermostat. The thermostat functions the same way a normal one would with the exception of the opening and closing being controlled by this heating element. Pretty neat stuff. Figured I would update here so if anyone else is curious.
