Tongue Weight and Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
Good Afternoon Everyone,
I just had the tow hitch installed by my local LR dealer on my 2022 LR Discovery. Everything seems to be working fine (nothing obvious hanging off) and I am thinking of purchasing a hitch mounted cargo carrier. Nice item to put wood after chopping and bulky stuff. I found the below from amazon and although it's more expensive than the others, it seems to be of top quality and good reviews. Basically looking for top quality. Any suggestions are welcome!!
I am also looking for clarity regarding the tongue weight for the Discovery 5. I found the below through the LR website and it states Tongue Weight (Certified) is 330 Lbs, HOWEVER the Tongue Weight (Design) is 771 lbs. Does this mean it has been TESTED to 330 BUT theoretically was designed to handle 771?

Any clarification is appreciated.
Thanks!! Matt

thanks!! ultimate plan may be to tow my daughter's pony. A LR towing a horse trailer, how cliche!
the pony is small (11 hands) and only about 500 lbs but as she grows, bigger horses. of course need to take into consideration the weight of the trailer! i know the towing mass limit is 6613 lbs and with a tongue weight of 10-15% that's between 661 and 992, or an average of 827 lbs.
so what's the significance of the 330 lb max? thanks again for your help!

That will be no problem. TD6 limit is 7700lbs and SI6 is 8200 lbs both have tongue limit of 771. There are many people on here who routinely tow at or close to those limits, myself included, with no issues. The Disco is a great tow vehicle, the best I have ever driven. Not sure what the 330lb is you reference, as I have never seen that mentioned anywhere before. I am wondering if that might be the tongue limit of the euro hitch as their trailers are designed differently and have MUCH lower tongue weights that North America.
Is your receiver detachable? I was just in the dealer for a service & didn't check but this seems to say they've gone back to the detachable receivers like they had on the LR3 / LR4 and some RRS. Either way seems to say max "nose" 350KG = 770LBs. It must be a different design as my LR3 hitch was max 400LBs...

Well in that case good luck with your pony chauffeur duties! If you search these forums you'll see what folks pull with the D5s. We've done 5000LB static load easy.
