I'm looking into purchasing a 2017/8 Discovery HSE Luxury (gas) and trying to understand the payload of the car. The loading/tire sticker on the driver's door states that the combined weight of passengers and cargo should not exceed 1202 lbs., however, when you subtract the vehicle curb weight (4751 lbs.) from the vehicle GWVR (6989 lbs.), you get a calculated payload of 2238 lbs.
Can someone please explain why is the difference as my local dealership couldn't. I'm trying to understand true towing capacity as the trailer tongue weight should be subtracted from the vehicle payload to see how many passengers I can put in the Dico. With only 1202 lbs., it doesn’t leave much room for a 700 lbs on the hitch ball and 7 passangers.
Thanks in advance!
