Default Well....I got it!

Picked up my new Disco Lux on Thursday..The dealer flat bed brought it over from Boston Monday. I asked him a couple things....
1). Be SURE the tires are balanced.
2). Be sure the software is the latest edition...
Guess what! They couldn't get the "module" to pair up so they could load info to the car. (sat with sales lady for an hour trying).

Soooo...I am driving not even 1 mile and the vehicle is vibrating...(I test drove 4 or 5 and they didn't). I kept going home and drove right over to a trusted tire shop near my house. I have had road force issues on other vehicles...by chance they were Goodyear tires as well. The tech came in smiling. Road force was 109lbs. on one of the tires and the others were 69-38-26. (acceptable is under 16 lbs....Soooo...we called the dealer together and they put 4 new tires on this AM. (they also aligned it) The module is toast so they are ordering one and install next week.
Other than that I love the way it drives and handles..100% better than my Yukon Denali.
I'll update after next week..

Our Volvo came with Michelin tires [2005 forgot the tire name] that were good enough but were also toast by 18K. The Touareg arrived with Conti Sport tires that were technically an all season but had balance and severe traction problems so I went to Pirelli ATRs on it [when they were a good H rated tire instead of the S crap now]. My $86K Pepper arrived with Goodyear Eagles on it. Again, technically an all season but had balance and traction issues. I went to Pirelli summers and bought some 18s for some Nitto Terra Grapplers for winter and offroad fun. Our Q5 S-line came with actual Goodyear Excellence summer tires on it that despite less than great ratings were nice summer tires. Taking delivery on Xmas eve 2014, I had to immediately buy some all season tires for our Kansas weather. I have been burning those Goodyears up though in the summer.

Bottom line is we have had horrible luck with the quality and type/sourcing of tires on all of our Euro-wagons that were otherwise all great vehicles.

I honestly don't know if seeing a LOT of Goodyear tires on Euro-wagons in the States is some kind of marketing ploy even though at least 2 that I can remember had overseas plant codes. I pretty much expect to be putting different tires on our D5 if it ever arrives? A sad reality it seems for high end SUVs.

From what I hear it has to do with the actual contact with the road and how round the tire is. Here is the actual explaination..

Road force balancers, in addition to performing a traditional spin balance, measure both the wheel and tire by pressing a large roller against the tread of the spinning tire. The roller applies 1,200 to 1,400 pounds of pressure to simulate the weight of the vehicle on the tire as it rolls down the road.

Most higher end shops have these machines....
