Default Wiper Challenge

So I got in my car the other morning and the wipers were iced but on automatic. The driver side freed up but the passenger didn't. Now only the driver goes. I've wiggled it around and the passenger moves a little bit sometimes. Is there a trick to getting it back on track? It's not broken is it? Also, it's been a hell of a time finding the wipers in an auto parts store. Is there any brand that has the right adaptors? THanks so much!

It’s possible you stripped the inside of it.

You would think they've engineered a safety on that 20 years ago?

I have replaced my original blades with RainX Latitude 2 in 1 Blades (one 24" and one 20") and they are great! Ordered off Amazon.

not being a jerk lol but it’s up to you to not turn them on when they are frozen. Run the heat and scrape it off if able next time. If I were you I’d keep my mouth shut and run it by a dealer not knowing why it quit working and get a watery repair :-)

it’s not the blade the motor is stripped, possibly.

I suppose but if they're on automatic and you start the vehicle before checking you would think there would be a relay that senses resistance and stops. Much older other cars have never done that. I thought maybe land rover made it get loose on purpose and there was a simple reset to get it on line. Thanks!

I admit I initially used to drive around with the wipers set on auto because why not, but I later noticed that they would occasionally activate when I started it up in the garage (seemingly dry but maybe there was water somewhere) and that was annoying so set them to off and now manually set them to auto. It is easy to forget to put them back to off when parking up though so this topic serves as an important warning.
That said, I agree LR should have some sort of safety system in place that detects resistance to avoid this if they’re going to fit a system that has enough power to strip itself...

Edit:
I notice Mitsubishi in their manual states that the automatic wipers won’t operate if the vehicle is stationary and the temperature is around or below freezing. Given the a Disco has an outside temp sensor and obviously knows when it’s stationary, it seems trivial for LR to implement...

Edit 2:
According to the manual: "If the wipers become stuck or jammed, an electronic cut-out temporarily halts the operation of the wipers." So there is some protection built in...
