Default 2003 land rover d2 se7 4.6 l v8

has anyone had a spark plug blow out of the engine while driving? i knew the i rover was going to need the engine rebuilt but i was waiting for warmer weather. unfortunately ill have to get going now. im thinking of reboring cylinder heads rather than removing the whole thing now. ive never done it but i dont think it can make things worse. im wondering has anyone had any luck doing this or am i out of my mind? if it needs a new engine i figure why not learn a few things on the way. any help is appreciated

The plug threads are easy to damage, because of the way all the plugs are at angles to the block. For me at least, this makes it easy to get one in cross-threaded.

The 3.5 V8 in the TR8 had a thread that I had to recut with a tap. Use a tap with large flutes, and lots of grease in the flutes to catch shavings. I also vacuumed out the cylinder. Making sure that cylinder is at TDC before starting helps to reach any stray shavings.
