96 Disco in Egypt
Greetings,
I'm a US expat living and working in Cairo, Egypt. Last October (2013), we hired a company to take the family on a 4-day camping excursion in the Black & White Desert (6 hours west of Cairo) and fell in love with a new style of camping and 4-wheeling.
So the hunt was on. I purchased my first Land Rover in December 2013 - a 1996 LR Discovery I. It is in decent shape, but as with anything in this region, there are many "local engineering" repair/mistakes to be cleaned up. After working out a few of the more serious issues, I plan to begin setting it up for desert camping. It'll go stock, but I can't leave it that way for long.
I am thankful to have found the Sand Rovers, a local LR club. While they are mainly "old-school" guys with little interest in Range Rovers and Discos, they are still friendly, helpful and provide shop space with tools. Check out their link in my signature to see some of their desert camping trips over the years.
As a member of a Jeep Forum for my stateside CJ7, I appreciate these groups. I tend to "lurk" more than post as I still consider myself a newbie, but I appreciate the help and will contribute whenever possible.
Cheers!
Byron
