always wanted a Rover. Been driving everything else for the past 50 years so I finally broke down and bought a 03 Disco. I am impressed with the enthusiasm and knowledge on this forum and look forward to being a productive inmate!

Welcome. The factory shop and owner manuals are a free download below, called the RAVE. Important points:

1. Check front drive shaft for mutiple grease fittings. Stock shaft had sealed fittings in some spots, and will snap, with little or no warning, and can poke a big hole in transmission. Rebuilt write up in our tech section.

2. Don't trust heat gauge. Computer keeps it at 50% until overheating begins. Consider an Ultra Gauge, which is a code reader/scanner that can display live data, like coolant temp. Allows you to react sooner.

3. There is a high miles service list from Disco Mike posted, go thru that.

4. Radiators need to have Dexcool flushed out copleetly and replaced with 50:50 coolant mix, Peak is a good brand.

5. Shell Rotella oil is very well liked by the engines, 15W40, cheap, and widely available, 5000 mile or less drain interval.

6. Perform a manual oil PSI test, to verify oil pump is keeping up with demand.

Have fun with the Disco!

Hey beemer. I live in Pensacola, just jione this site this morning and got a 1998 Discovery 2 days ago. I also have a 328i and 2 BMW motorcycles, sound s like we may have a lot in common! Maybe we could team up and help each other learn how to master these beasts. My email is barry.bennett@me.com I found a good shop here and have already had to address some electrical problems. Good luck.
