Default Brit in Virginia

Hi y'all, said in my best southern drawl!

A recently arrived Brit, married the local girl, and sadly suffering from Defender withdrawal having had to leave her behind! Damn the US import restrictions. Was a 2005 110SE LHD as I lived in Europe, so would have been perfect!

I'm astounded by the prices they fetch here in the states, and I am seriously considering doing some import sales!

A good Series Landy will sell for circa $5-8K in the UK/Europe, but sells for $30K and up here

Think I'll buy a chassis and start building one from scratch! I have contacts for parts

In the meantime I have to drive the FJ Cruiser, which is actually a great toy, but lacks everything cool about the Defender, apart from reliability

Not sure I'll be attending any driving days until I have something with a Green Oval on it!

Here's a video of me playing back in Europe

Anyway, I'll be nosing around a bit and hopefully contribute to some threads now and then.

you need to get a disco, they are a dime a dozen here... not to mention we have events all over the east coast. including a big one in Virginia in September called Conclave.

Welcome to the USA and to the forum. Check out Rover Owners' Association of Virginia for local Virginia events, and some groups in the NC and PA/NJ areas that may be of interest to you.

Oh dear is that what I'll be reduced too

If I could find a good one (oxyymoron) and fit some lockers, and get one with a proper central locker and not the Freelander style viscous coupling, then that might be a plan. At least they all have V8s here

My father in law also builds monster engines and the V8 is basically a Buick so tweaking is a possibility

I do want to be involved with the Land Rover scene and have terrible withdrawal!

I hope the new Defender is a worthy successor (herritage and looks, not technically, although that's another debate) to the one it will replace, and then we'll have a Defender again in the US.

Will do! Hokie suggests you're just up the road from me too.

This is like offering an alcoholic a beer!

1. I'd better find a cheap Disco

2. Discos need lockers + BFGs

3. What's this obsession with rock crawling

4. Going to stick a Green Oval on my FJ and see if anyone notices

$1,500 for a disco 1, $1,500 for detroit lockers, $850 for 33" treadwright mud terrains, $700 for a 3" Spring and shock kit. for well under $5,000 you will have a very capable off-roader.

I like the sound of that!

How do these compare to ARB air lockers?
