Clueless in Kentucky
I just bought my Land Rover!!!! I just bought my FIRST LAND ROVER 😊 And let me be perfectly frank..I am CLUELESS. I'm probably going to get more use out of this forum than I do my kitchen sink! I say I JUST bought it, it's been over a month, but considering I've wanted one for 20 years it still feels very new and fresh. 2002, LR discovery II, 115,000 miles. I'm ignorant to the off-road capabilities, please bear that in mind. There aren't any guards on it, no roof racks, etc. However there are after market steel bumpers. And probably other features I'm unaware of. I'm planning to add a lot of protective features to it soon. I'm not planning to do any fierce off roaring as it is, however I do drive a lot of back roads while camping and climbing so I'd like to be prepared in the event I get into a sticky situation. That was the reason I wanted a more aggressive 4 wheel drive vehicle but as you all already know these vehicles aren't cheap to fix!!
Congratulations, on your new addition.
I'd probably start with changing all of the fluids, engine, trans, transfer case (especially, the trasfer case...they seem to get overlooked for some reason...probably fill plug location), axles, anti-freeze (lots of topics here, regarding type used), powersteering and brake fluid flush. This is what I started with on my wife's 03, my 01 only has the PS and brake fluid flush to go.
Be sure to check out your front drive shaft, known to fail at that type of mileage. Replaced both of ours with greaseable/upgraded models.
Good luck, and post up some pictures of your rig.
Brian.
