Completely new to Land Rover
Hello all, I'm the new guy. I'm wanting to get into overlanding and off-road. I always liked the land Rover looks and capabilities. My other option was a jeep. I've never been a fan of jeep. Now here I am a proud owner of a 2007 LR3. With a blown head gasket. I also picked up a 2006 LR3 with you guessed it a blown head gasket. I found this forum looking for info. I plan on doing a motor swap into the 2007. The trick is I want to keep the terrain response working. Which is what I was looking for information on. How does it work, what sensors is it reading . To keep this post from getting longer I believe I have it all figured out with the exception of throttle control and pedal position. I'm trying to figure out how to deliver that info to the ECU with a different motor onboard. I look forward to learning more about this platform and maybe we can learn from each other.
I thought I was ambitious buying one non-running LRs, you easily beat me! Sounds like a fun project.
Probably not the answer you're looking for, but have you considered just doing the head gaskets on one, then using that one while you swap the other?

Yes, I have considered that and I may just do that. Being a mechanic by trade putting the other motor will not be much issue. The problem will be getting all the info the terrain response needs to keep functioning with a different motor. I plan on keeping the factory land Rover transmission. I will use the trans from one to make my adapter and get it fitted then of course drop it to the one I'll be driving. I do have two other vehicles I drive so I'm in no rush. The more i learn about the 4.4 the more I don't believe it's the problem. It's the electronics around it. We will see.
