Hello all,

I recently picked up my very first Rover, a pretty solid 1999 Discovery D1 V8, with 155k miles. After months of searching, the D1 was the only Rover for me.

My goal is to build this up into a simple, reliable overlander that I can still drive around town once a week.

I really appreciate the sturdy chassis and the smaller size of the D1 (and that the speakers are above wading height). Although I would have rather found one with lower miles, the engine does sound good, and this Rover has a butter-smooth tranny, with only a bit of body rust around the top rear windows, but no major rust and no water leaks! Already, it's the best vehicle I've ever owned.

(everything else leaks. the rearview mirror leaks. wheel bolts leak

The biggest challenge is that I have next to no car or Rover repair experience!! Bicycle repair? Yes. 35mm camera repair ? Yes. Car repair? Nope.

So this thread could lead to some entertaining posts... but for me it's an opportuinty to learn how to maintain a solid truck. Why not start out with an adventure in Rover land... ?

Nice looking ride
Look for a link to the Rave manual and download it . It is great information. Look for hi mileage maintenance and keep it up. you will learn a bunch form maintaining it.

I wish I had your bike rack. I put a bit bigger tires on my 04 DII and now the bike rack is too short to fit with the spare on it..
