Greetings From Long Island, NY!!
Hello Everybody. I am a proud owner of a 1999 Land rover discovery series II. This is my first land rover but my father had a 1996 Disco 5pd! I look forward to contributing to these forums and getting to know you guys.
Great to hear from a second generation owner. You'll find a complete set of tech manuals to download for free below, it is called the RAVE (Rovers Are Very Expensive).
In the tech area of the forum, you'll find to-do list for new 2 u Discos, high miles Discos, etc. For your model you'll also want to look at the write up on rebuilding the propshafts. The front one starts "chirping" - just before it comes apart and pokes a hole in the transmission. Your temp guage is really an idiot light with a pointer, once it starts moving above 9:00 it is too warm. If you have access to a data reading scanner you'll want to compare meter to real coolant temp. The oil warning light come on at 7 PSI, meaning you can drive around at 9 PSI and not know it. After market oil guages are a good thing. Check fluids every week without fail, leaks can get a lot worse faster than you think. Change oil early and often, like 5000 mile intervals. A good diesel rated oil does a good job of cleaning this 1960's engine, Shell Rotella is one brand.
