Default Greetings! Potential new LR owner

I have wanted a Land Rover for a very long time. I have always loved the looks of the vehicle and combination of ruggedness and luxury they offer. I think with my other project nearing completion and my daily driver 04 Dakota being kind of wasted since I rarely need a pickup any more that I am ready to take the plunge. I don't intend to do any heavy modding (of course I didn't intend with my E38 BMW either) or spend any serious off road time. I just want a vehicle that is comfortable as a daily driver but can also handle it when roads get nasty.

I am going to look at a 2003 Discovery HSE7 in a few days. I wanted to check with some people with in-depth knowledge of these beasts to make sure it isn't just lipstick on a pig.

What I know:
The pictures look good (this is the lipstick part)
158K
Body looks good (again pics)

That is about all I know. What are the common things to look for on a 2003 with 158K? What are the normal failures that will be in my future if they haven't happened already? How many of those issues should I be able to wrench myself? Feel free to share anything I haven't asked that I may need to know.

Dan

Take a scanner, preferable one that does live data. ask when head gaskets were done. Check cooling temps and level. Check for working windows and locking doors. A many other things but just getting the list started.
Good luck
