hello from Chicago!
Hey all,
new to the LR world! just bought an 01 disco II with 60k miles. Pretty excited! I'm no stranger to the off road world, having had jeeps all of my life - I still have a 97 wrangler that's lifted, locked, etc....that's my trail rig.
look forward to learning from all of you!

Download the RAVE tech manual set in link below.
Temp gauge is really not very accuarte, it is more like an idiot light with a pointer. At 9:00 position it will actually be a wide range of temps. When it starts crawling above 9:00, it is already a lot hotter than you would want it to be. If you have access to a data reading scanner worth a look at coolant temp.
Oil PSI warning light is 7 PSI, so you can drive around at 9 PSI and not know it. Check fluids weekly, without fail. Consider aftermarket gauges, like Glowshift.
Many posters use a diesel rated oil for extra cleaning of gunk left behind by previous owner. One choice is Shell Rotella. 5000 miles on drain interval, syn or regular. It is a 1960's engine design, not a Toyota.
Look in our forum's tech area, where there is a write up on propshaft rebuild. If your shafts have zerks, grease every oil change, if not, rebuild, they make a chirp noise, just before coming apart and kncking a hole in the transmission...
