Hello everyone
In my humble opinion, Rover has extended the drain interval for oil once again. Was 7500, now 10,000 miles. 5000 is more like it. Same on all the other fluids, used to change coolant every two years, now 10 years. Maintaining as if you have more arduous conditions won't hurt the truck.
I believe Land Rover extend oil/fluids interval is base on Lab test and confidence of their products, but in real world...... I rather spend more money in oil/fluids change but not repair when it break down.....
Well, the earlier Discoverys had a 2 year drain interval on coolant, now that is 10 years. Coolant has not become 500% better in the past few years. The LR3 has a front differential that holds 22 ounces of fluid, splash lubrication, 150,000 mile drain interval. More HP than a D1, and more than 1000 pounds increased weight. The D1 has 3 times the fluid in the differential and much shorter drain interval. The LR3 differential is about $2200 at the dealer, plus labor.
They extended drain intervals to reduce cost of operation for original owner or lease customer. After warranty they don't care.
