Welcome.

Warning 1 - front drive shaft had no grease fittings on the double section from the factory. Grease cooks out, shaft snaps, and shaft bashes big hole in transmission.

Rebuild article in our tech area, or after market shaft.

Warning 2 - factory temp gauge will show 50% normal for 130 - 240F. Don't trust it, get a scanner or ultra gauge to see real temps. A land Rover (not moto rad) 180F thermostat is a great upgrade.

Warning 3 - The RAVE is the factory shop manual set, free download below, includes owners manual. Will consume plenty of spare time.

Warning 4 - you'll be stopping for gas frequently. This a'int no Prius.

Thanks for the advice! Already got the RAVE manuals and ordered a haynes for quick reference.

As far as the front drive shaft which is the better route to go, the rebuild or the aftermarket?

Read the rebuild artiucle and decide based on skill set, shop space, available tools, funding, etc. If truck is a daily driver, the aftermarket has the advantage of speed, but a rebuild can be done for under $100 I think.

Note: While you can save money by DIY, a Rover can take over your spare time, and any savings are evaporated by the retail therapy she-who-must-be-obeyed takes on as her share of the garage project. In other words, don't tell her you are saving $$$$ doing the work yourself....
