Hi Lyn Lloyd
Hi I am a retired school -technology teacher, originally from South Wales and have lived in Turangi New Zealand for the last 45 years. I taught In the UK for 10 years before I decided to come to live inn New zealand in 1977. In 1982 I bought a series one landcover as I was nuts on hunting and fishing and it proved a great machine to get into places that proved difficult for others. I had that landrover until 2002 but sold it to another hunter as I had health issues that prevented me doing all the daft things we used to do as hunters.
In 2005 I imported a 1996 Discovery TDI from Japan and had this until 2010 when i bough a TD5 yr 2000 fro a guy I worked with. I had great mileage and problem free driving through until 2017 when the cylinder head cracked, a problem I was told occurs with the TD5 -often around 280 thou kms, apparently due to the plastic plugs used to hold the head in place. The garage I use suggested that it was not wise to put a brand new head on an old engine ( by this time my old girl had done 486 thousand KMs.
I purchased parts from a dealership I used to deal with in UK. Much cheaper than going to l;androver in NZ and they totally rebuilt my motor from ground up, every thing new. That was fine but shortly after my trans crapped out and that led to a huge saga for the next 3 yrs because they replaced the trans with a good used one but unfortunately did not pick up that there was something slightly different about the replacement. The damn thing broke the flex plate 4 times, until eventually I took it to a trans expert who fixed the prob by inserting a spacer that was necessary. Anyway she's running fine now, and goes well .
I joined this group as obviously there are members with a wealth of information and experiences that prove so valuable to other members. Cheers to you all Lyn lloyd NZ
