I have inherited 4 Discos and in various states...
Hello, after 20 years of being and hard core VW man it would appear that I have been thrust into the world of Land Rovers. I have inherited 4 discos in various states of repair and disrepair.
1 running 95 with a 3.9, this car is the nicest. However the car starts very slowly, idels rough, and while driving, at any speed, the tach surges and bounces constantly 100 to 500 rpm.
1 96 with a 4.0 starts and runs smoothly until you try to rev it or drive it above 1000rpm then it starts missing like it is cross wired (it isn't though).
2 other 95,s both not running, that were to be combined to make one running rover.
I am thrilled to have these cars and look forward to getting them on the road. Any thought on my odd running problems will be appreciated.

Welcome.
You can be a VW person and a Land Rover person.
I am.
You will find that fewer people will pull out in front of you in the LR and
people will not cut off like in your VW, well this what I have found.
I make it a point not to do the same thing when I'am in my LR.
The 96 may have a bad stepper motor (throttle position sensor) this can be cleaned.

You should first check the charging circuit for proper output on both. These things are power hungry, and a weak alternator will cause the symptoms you describe. Are there any dash warning lights on?...like the CEL?
Read my tech info pages at www.eurotekapg.com for a primer on what to look for on these vehicles.
I have a 1991 Range Rover Classic that is very reliable and smooth running at approx. 135K miles.

Geoman
