If you are in the US stay far far away from the Freelanders. The engine/transmission combo available here is notorious for problems, like completely trashed engines.
The people who've not had expensive problems are the exception, not the norm.

I suggest looking at a Discovery I or II.
I could never tell someone to consider a freelander.

Welcome to the boards!

Freelanders have lots of issues that can be extremely costly. If your in the market for lr I agree with Cam.A D1 or D2 is a better vehicle and if your mechanically inclined a much better investment.Just search this site and ask ?'s and you should get the info you need to make a good purchase.Good luck

D1 parts are cheap, labour is high.

D2 Parts are expensive and labour is cheap.

Freelander parts and labour are expensive.

Smaller
no low range
unibody construction (compared to D1 and DII)
**** poor engine/gearbox combination in the US.
