I've owned most LR's from a Series 2 to an RR Classic to an RRS 3.0TDi and I love 'em. They are great provided you service them properly, and I mean properly. There's a lot of machinery in an LR be it a D2, Series, RR or whatever model and it needs properly looking after. Most are driven just like any 2 wheel drive shopping cars and people wonder why they fail. It's all about maintenance. Comparative LR's of the same year are all more or less the same technology. Comparing a modern RR to a D2 is like comparing apples with pears, there is no comparison but they make one hell of a comfortable set of wheels to drive and do a reasonable turn of speed. Make no mistake, they ain't ballistic, fast and furious for that you need a Ferrari or Porsche but they are good fun to drive and excellent at towing, very, very stable even at speed towing. I've owned LR's for 40-45 years and wouldn't choose another drive in their place. You can get stuck in places in an LR that most other 4x4's couldn't even dream of reaching.
