Default just bought what i have been wanting

I just bought a 1999 Discovery with 93,000 miles from a local Land Rover mechanic. I am only 17 years old, and a girl, so it has been hard for me to find a seller that would take me seriously. I payed $2900 for mine, but it needs a new Y pipe and o2 sensors. I really want to take the truck off roading, however, it is also very hard to find someone to take me seriously about that.

Does anyone have any maintenance advice or advice on how to get people to take me seriously when it comes to the truck?

Kailey97, Read all the info about your Disco II here and do the maintenance yourself.
Go to Harbor Freight and buy some hand tools. Find a friends dad's that likes cars.
IMHO this is where to learn from other owners.

Hey Kailey,

I'm also a girl that owns a Discovery, so you're not alone.

Best advice I can give is to just learn as much as you can and don't let anyone hold you back. The forum is a great resource. Everyone is very helpful and overall likes to help their fellow Rover owners.

at the top of the DII section are maintenance charts and suggestions. One thing while the y-pipe is being fixed have the front drive shaft checked closely.

Have a good mechanic check that off- road vehicle before you are really off-road!!!
( parked or stuck on the side of the road )!!!

I just bought a 2003 disco II this past June 2014 with 132,000 miles and exactly ten days later i had it inspected and got an inspection sticker... guess what happen that same day! What? The oil light came on... engine knocking....it's an off-road vehicle all right ...I need oil pump / engine!! I'm officially a roll over owner!!
