Just to say hello from newbie
Just joined as this looks like it could be informative and interesting. Have a 94/95 disco 1 - very nearly ready for the mot. It's a 3 door tdi. Looking forward to getting some advice as it will be needed

Welcome.
BTW - would you explain how the mot works, and what happens if you don't pass, etc.?

Welcome. Unfortunately not Tdi's were ever imported to the US (though people have converted petrol Rovers to the 300Tdi here) and no 3-doors were. Of course some things are the same, but other stuff is specific. Here's a very good forum closer to home: Land Rover UK Forums
Just wanted to say that even tho I am on a couple of UK Landy forums I just thought it would be interesting to see what was going on over the pond. Good to see that there are some keen Disco owners over there.
Insofar as the MOT is concerned the basics are that once a vehicle is 3 years old it must undergo a Ministry of Transport (MOT) test on an annual basis. The car is given a stringent going over by the testing station and if all is ok then a pass certificate is issued. This is also held electronically by the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA).
It is not possible to obtain a vehicle excise licence (Road Tax) without having a valid MOT Certificate not having one also invalidated any insurance on the vehicle. Given all the inherent problems with the disco they usually fail the mot resulting in additional work before the retest - but hey, working on the car is all part of owning one. Right???
Would be interested in hearing about how you guys have caught the Disco bug - I thought it would be all Hummers, Dodges etc.
