Thumbs up Meet the yeti and roverjay

Hi Everyone!

Some of you I feel like I already know because I have read through so many threads on here.

None of you will know me though. I am Jason or aka 'RoverJayTX' from the Dallas area and I have a white 2001 Discovery 2 SE7 4.0 w/SAI named "The Yeti". (Yes before the coolers were popular, my daughter and I named her!)

THE YETI - 201,000 Miles as of December 2015.

I bought the Yeti in March of 2013 with about 158,000 miles on her. The original owner had some maintenance records and the second owner had a decent garage with plenty of tools so I assumed she would be in decent shape.

She had the "Three Amigos" when I bought her but the interior was/is still perfect (seriously) and just about the only things with rust are the exhaust manifolds. I noticed the drive-shaft was already done before I bought it as well.

I love the truck. I am an engineer and tech guy, so tinkering with this thing has become a bit of a habit as much as a hobby. I have worked on a few vehicles in my life, never too far over my head though.

Here are the repairs/mods I have used this great forum and its member knowledge as a resource for so far:

-Throttle body heater plate bypass and replacement
-Vacuum line repair
-CAT replacement diagnosis
-Front LH Wheel ABS Sensor replacement
-Heater Core replacement
-Creating a new nipple for my radiator
-Plugs
-Wires
-Plastic body parts here and there from weathering
-Parts Sourcing
-General maintenance and troubleshooting tips

Here are some modifications I have made to the truck:
-Converted Heater core pipes to ribbed, protected flex lines (My heater core took 4hrs to change and now it only would take about 2 tops)

-Fog lamp adapters changed to basic H1 adapter with the negative cable being 2-sided super strength alligator clamp clip (the bulb will physically break before it goes out now, super sturdy and they take less than a minute to change. OG clips on these sucked...)

-Reverse and traverse view cameras (yup side view on a DISCO)

-Aftermarket stereo system with 1700 watt amp and 12" in a custom box. Video for the kiddo

-Charging station for my emergency work light, extra phone battery pack, and two usb ports

-Brass nipple at intake for PCV

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!!

This site has been the foundation of my knowledge about this truck. So thank you to all who have contributed!

I have decided to keep my truck for a little while longer. I was going to upgrade to something new but every time I looked at something new I looked at an old picture of the YETI and I just can't get rid of her... A lot of memories and value in this thing already! So...

When my permissions change I plan on posting a thread to prepare for my 200k tune-up which includes the following:

-valve cover job (have gaskets down to the valley pan in 1 kit)
-head gasket job (if needed, I have another HG kit to do it all again I supposed I would machine the heads or replace them too)
-coil packs
-timing chain kit
-oil pump kit
-new water pump
-hose kit
-radiator
-180dg thermostat
-new o2 sensors
-All fluids (wish I had a comprehensive checklist for this, not done yet)

I have all the parts here or on the way now. I will start it this Saturday or Sunday since I am off until 1/4 after tomorrow.

Nice to meet you all, looking forward to the community. Thanks again for all the long-timers on here who have been a huge help and inspiration for me to keep the YETI rollin'

-RoverJayTX

Nice to have you here. Like you, the forums here are not only a great resource but the primary reason I have kept my Rover when any sane person would have gotten rid of it. You are now cursed. Haha.

What part of Texas? I'm in Longview.

Mansfield area.

I only have one shop about 35 miles from me that is Indy and has a lot of experience on Discos. Kinda on my own over here with it but I have been researching this for months now. Can't wait to get started!

I can identify. The closest shops to me are in Dallas and Shreveport. Needless to say I've learned to maintain my own over the last sixteen years, with varying degrees of success. Only been back to the dealership (Dallas) one time... On 9/11/01.

Hey Charlie!

I created a new post with updates on my Rover. It is running stronger than ever, I have done a ton to her. We are never parting ways. No pun intended..
