Default My wife bought an 03 Discovery

My wife bought an 03 Discovery from her brother. I think all of her siblings have owned it at some point so I guess it is her turn. She loves this thing.
The problem.
My son and I installed an LS engine in this truck a couple of summers ago. Six months ago the original Rover transmission let go and the truck wound up at my house again. I swear the chassis was not rusted when we installed the GM engine. I'm up under this truck and looking at what it would take to replace the transmission and see the frame now has big rust holes in it. At this point the brother in law wants out and my wife buys it from him. Did I mention that my wife loves this truck? The interior is in great condition and the body is solid with no rust or accidents. I already tried to get her to let me swap everything over to another Rover but that was not what she wanted to hear. Why, I don't know but she loves this truck.
I plan to read all the posts in this forum on chassis repair/replacement. The rust holes extend maybe a foot past the point where the 1/2 chassis replacement pieces would weld on. I may have to do a full frame replacement although I have a mig welder and plenty of experience welding up race car chassis so cutting up the chassis and repairing it doesn't scare me either. The things you do for love.

Bill

I’m sure there is a discussion somewhere on here about chassis repair choices. I’ve tried to find some and have read most of them. Trying to determine
whether to pick this body up and roll a new frame under this 03 discovery or buy a half chassis and replace the back half. If you buy a replacement chassis is it worth buying one of the new galvanized chassis or just find a rust free factory chassis? For that matter would you buy a used factory chassis and cut it where you wanted and replace the back half?
if you were going to replace the chassis you would need to lift the body off. Do I need to buy a two post lift? I only have 10ft ceilings in my garage. Any other elegant ways to lift a body off safely? I suppose a four post lift would be more useful later for car storage. Anybody lifted a rover body off with a four post lift? Anyway I’m sure there are a bunch of options just trying to figure out which way to go.

Pick up a rust free roller D2 chassis from the south. Pop the body off swap the motor over to the new chassis drop the body back on and off you go

That’s what I am thinking. Anyone got a rust free chassis or roller for sale? Preferably in the southeast US.

Hi. You should post your questions in the Disco 2 section of this forum, and post a Wanted to Buy ad in the New Rover Marketplace section of this forum.

Wife's, what are they good for, absolutely nothing, say it again!

I believe this it what Jimmy orginally wanted to say...but feared the ramifications...lol.
