New Disco 2 Owner (Actually Used 2001) Looking for Disco Feedback
Just picked up a used 2001 Disco 2 SD7 with 61k miles on it, in immaculate condition. Read all the owner reviews and found a whole cross section of people that love them or really, really hate them so I'm REALLY curious about feedback from other Disco owners. Is there a point in time that LR made changes and upped the general realiability of the Disco or are the hit and miss reliability complaints just part of owning a Disco? It was a real gut wrenching decision to buy this Disco, even in the shape it's in, with all the negative owner comments and horror stories about bad LR dealerships and poor to no dealership support. I've wanted one of these guys for over 10 years, found one, bought one, and still wondering about what I've bought. Anybody have any insights or thoughts?
I own one too! Bought mine with 56k on it and am now at 68k miles. It has been FANTASTIC! Only thing I have had a problem with was a "service engine light" which turned out to be a need for a new Mass Airflow Sensor. Got it replaced, service light turned off, and that's it! No significant problems! Idrove it on the move from Texas to Ohio, commute through downtown Columbus daily, occassionally hit the highway to Kentucky, camping in the Hocking Hills, and road tripped once to Portland, Maine and back, all without incident. Did I mention it has been a fantastic vehicle? It has been a FANTASTIC VEHICLE!!
Well... I did spend $72.26 to fill her up the other day, but . . .

I bought a 2003 Disco II about a year ago and, until yesterday haven't had any problems at all. Just got a Service Engine light and am in the process of troubleshooting it. I also live in Ohio and we did some camping and road trips over the summer. My wife has toted many kids around and loves the jump seats. We have a gravel driveway with a good incline and the Disco never even flinches. Really great vehicle, I couldn't be more pleased over all. Obviously they are a bit quirky and I think that goes against some buyers' expectations. But that quirkiness is part of what I like about these vehicles and they are fun to drive.
I'll let you know what comes of my SES issue; right now it looks like I need new plug wires. I only have 37k miles on it, so I am surprised to have an issue like this so soon...but...no worries, I think it'll work out fine. My experience with the local dealership to-date has been very good and I hear the same feedback from other owners. I think if you like your Rover, just enjoy it, get out and have fun!

I have a 2001 Disco 2.I just bought it about a month ago and I love it. No problems so far. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have differential lock it has the traction control but I would just feel better if had the diff lock. Other than that I love it.
Hi! Welcome to Land Rover! I have two of them...love them...but am rarely out of the planning cycle for another repair. I don't mind getting my hands dirty and have done most work myself. I still love them. My wife grows weary sometimes...
Please pay attention to the forums and the problems others are having...use this as a source to plan your preventative maintenance.
My oldest truck has it's issues...but I have taken it on the highway probably ten times this year since July from NC to D.C. and it is reliable at 175k miles. I do recommend getting accustomed to repairs, what needs repair etc. Much of it can be done at home...but if you rely on shops or dealers...you'll be missing some of your hard earned income.
Congratulations on your truck! Post a photo when you can!
Remember, your truck is the "y" chromosome for EVERY other SUV in existence. I've driven LR's here and in Africa...they have an unbelievable ability to "bounce back" from damage or other issues...i.e. duct tape repairs etc.
Have fun!
