New Discovery 2 owner
Hi everyone, I have been a member for a couple of months, I decided and purchased my first Discovery 2 year 2000 with a couple of problems. I plan to do most of the maintenance on my Discovery myself. I am an electronics tech by trade but done some mechanical repairs on my previous cars.
Welcome. You will enjoy the RAVE shop manuals, the D2 wiring diagrams are in color. The heat gauge is driven by a pulse width modulated signal from the ECU. The program "logic" is set up to keep the pointer at 50% from about 130 to 240F. That lets your drive along thinking everything is OK. An OBDII scanner or Ultra Gauge will give a more precise view of the situation. Rover turns on the red light at 285F, which is way past "extra crispy".
The front popshaft, if oem, will split with almost no warning. Rebuild with greasable U joints in rear section, write up in our tech area; or replace with after market.
