Long time listener, first time caller from an island in Washington's Puget Sound.

I just pulled the trigger on my first Land Rover -- a 1986 Land Rover Santana 88 ED. To my *newbie* eyes, she looks very much like a 1983 (or earlier) Santana Series 3, albeit with a couple noticeable minor differences (dashboard for one). Based on the year and VIN I'm calling her a Series 3a. She's equipped with the 2.25L diesel and was imported to WA from the Cordoba region of Spain and so she looks pretty maintained and rust free. I'm sure there will be issues and that there are a few post-1983 Santana differences lurking about but I'm hoping to learn from the hive mind here and I'm looking forward to wrenching on her as needed and cruising around our island when I can.

Immediate issues that I noticed:
- Heater fan doesn't work - I'm guessing it's something easy like a fuse.
- I couldn't get her to engage in 4HI (the yellow **** wouldn't stay down). She engaged and did fine in 4LO.
