Default New Guy on the block

Greetings!
Just picked up a 1997 Discovery with a bad fuel pump(??) Previous owner clams that is all that is wrong with it....Towed it home and the battery is dead. He could start it by pouring fuel in the air intake and it would run for a bit...Nice looking truck for 144,000 miles Everything i have seen so far says I made a good choice. Looks like I may need a fuel pump but we'll see..

welcome. good luck. hope that's it. if that doesn't do it..... crank position sensor would be my next bet, thinking he ran battery down trying to crank it. keep us posted.

I don't think it would have started if the crank position sensor was out, that would affect the spark right? just a guess though.
