New LS Swap project incoming
Hey,
My name's Drew. My wife and I bought a 2003 Land Rover Discovery 2 HSE7. It's a very clean, seemingly well-maintained vehicle. 138k on the odometer. Previous owner had block pulled and cleaned up at machine shop. 4.0 block with 4.6 heads. I don't know why he chose this combination.
The engine rebuild has ~5k miles on it and it's leaking oil from around the valley pan gasket (from what I've read he probably didn't put sealant at the corners). I don't want to continue to maintain this engine although it does seem to run well.
I have a wrecked 2002 Suburban 2500 with the LQ4 with ~78k miles sitting at the house. I plan on pulling the LQ4 and swapping it into the Disco using the ACE kit : https://www.alternativeconversion.co...p-standard-kit
I'll go through the Disco with a fine tooth comb while prepping for the swap to fix things like leaky sunroof, loose seat cover, HD 2" lift springs (2" + shocks were installed by previous owner), wheels and tires, brush guard, roof rack, etc.
The idea is to bulletproof the HP24 trans (valvebody upgrade and torque converter) and leave the LQ4 as stock as possible while doing a tune up on it (gaskets, plugs, plug wires, etc.) before installation.
I'm an electrical engineer that works for a major automotive OEM and we've recently built a shop. I have yet to get my lift installed and still lack a lot of tools you'd expect to find in a shop but it's in progress.
We absolutely love where we live as we can easily access trails, hiking, biking, lakes, rivers, and camping. This vehicle will act as a daily driver for my wife for a few years upon completion and then will become our weekend getaway toy. I plan to use it to camp out of., off road, and occasionally tow a utility trailer.
I plan to start collecting parts now and order the ace kit once I've got the engines pulled and on stands.
I look forward to sharing the swap here and hope to find some answers for questions I'm sure I'll have.
Prost!
Drew

Welcome! Most of us with the LS swaps hang out around in the engine swaps subforum. I have an 2002 with a 5.3 LM4 done with ACE kit. For your build, I would consider also taking a look at the larger 96-98 P38 torque converter which would probably be better suited for that engine - not sure if it will fit though. Definitely add a big trans cooler.
Order the ACE kit early because there is often a wait.
