Hello everyone,

Ok, I have had my 2003 Disco for about three years(77000miles), the only problems I have had so far is the driver's and front passenger' window motor regulators going out. Recentlyits been leaking oil, buti havenot looked at it. I was reading the new guy forums and was concerned about a discussion on an oil pump problem "taking out the engine". Is thereany way I mightbe able todistinguish this problem from a normal oil leak?

thank you,
Nate

welcome to the forum

An oil leak is not a concern. I think a LR will leak about ten times as much oil as you've put into it across it's lifetime

Basically the oil pump failure is extremely sudden. There's no warnings aside from your oil light coming on and blinking. If you see that shut down your engine immediately and you can save your engine. I have the VIN range on my laptop, so either I can post it for you later or you can just check some of the other threads in this forum, it should be on the first page somewhere.

Default oil pump failure 03LR2

Hello again,

Well my vin # (3A797868) does fall in that range. So do you know any ways to prevent the oil pump failure?

unfortunately there's no way to prevent the failure. Make sure you're regular on your oil changes (every 5k on the dot if you use synthetic, which I recommend, 3k if you use dyno oil). Most importantly though, if you're ever driving and your oil light comes on throw it in neutral and shut the car off ASAP. Don't finish the drive home or anything, turn the car off and do not turn it back on untill you can get it towed home, that will possibly save your engine, then post here. It is however possible that this may never happen to you, and your 03 DII days will be great But just incase.
