My wife and I had been toying with the idea of an off-road worthy vehicle that I could also tow my bike with. We were pretty close to getting a Wrangler Unlimited but they are too expensive for what they are. The style of the Disco II appealed to both of us and I've had two Disco's. It's been awhile since I did something really stupid, so I found a 2004 SE7 with 82k miles in Oregon and bought it sight unseen. I'll be fastidiously detailing and furiously spending to make it as close to a new 11 year old as possible.
This should be a good project for you, welcome aboard.
Might ant to look at my major service posted as a sticky in the D2 section for a good guide to get you started.
As for any mod's, write us a list so we might help you as to what and where to buy from.

Thanks Mike. I actually read through the service post before I pulled the trigger just to see what I was in for. So fat the truck isn't dripping any fluids and seems to run cool. No engine tick either. All of the dash lights are off (for now) and almost all the switches work. The most easily apparent problem is that the sunroofs are caulked shut. At least they don't leak! I'll post some pic's and see what you guys think after I finish detailing.
As a true Rover lover, I would say don't take any thing for granted when it comes to your truck and assumptions as to it's condition. It is far better to stay way ahead of all it's maintenance then wait for it to bite.
How mechanical are you.
By the way, a 04 with that low of mileage is a great way to get started.

I'm a decent shade tree mechanic, but I'll be taking her to a local Rover specialist to get state inspected and a thorough going over. Looking under the truck I could tell the double cardans are the sealed type and will need replaced. The brakes feel a bit spongy but that may be because my other cars are light, fast and new.

Here again, since you are not at all familiar with D2's, you might want to talk before putting your neck on the line, there are very few shops out there that are looking out for you mainly their income. There are good places to buy and good and bad brands to use.
