Hello, all!

I figured I’d join the forum to partake in some discourse regarding Land Rover/Range Rover.

First & foremost, I’d like to start by saying that I know very little about Land Rovers. I know so little, that I don’t even understand the difference between Land Rover/Range Rover (sorry for my ignorance). The only thing I really know about them is that they seem to have a horrible reputation in the auto industry for being notoriously unreliable. This however, has not discouraged my interest in the brand.

I have always loved the look of these cars, the performance, and the rugged capabilities they possess. I truly fell in love with them when I had the opportunity to drive my cousin’s Land Rover Range Rover some years ago off road. I distinctly remember the way the car handled off road, the smoothness of the ride, and the effortless delivery of power from the V8 engine.

I currently own a pre-owned 2015 Jaguar F-Type R which will be paid off in the next couple of years. I fully intend on keeping this vehicle for as long as I possibly can. Once it is paid off, I would love to look into getting a Land Rover/Range Rover, but my only reservation is the stigma behind these vehicles.

Just how unreliable are these vehicles? Are they so unreliable that it leaves you stranded on the side of the road? Is it so unreliable that you have it in the shop every other month? I’ve been very diligent on maintaining my F-Type which (luckily) has been decently reliable despite being high maintenance.

I do not know which LR/RR model I would like to pursue, as I do like most of the models. Therefore, I call on all current owners of these beautiful SUVs to inform me on the brand. Just how awful are these car? Just how great are they? Is there merit to the unreliable reputation, or is this something that has been greatly exaggerated over the course of time?

Thank you for reading & taking the time to answer my post!

Hi and welcome here. In my experience (more than 30 years of LR ownership), Land Rovers are pretty reliable. They are perhaps glitchy, but the issues (at least on older models) are very well known and easy to repair. They do not leave you stranded by the road anymore than other vehicles. If you enjoy maintaining (or being involved in maintaining) your vehicles, they are not expensive to maintain. Maintaining them is key to keeping them reliable.
Range Rover is the upscale model of Land Rover.
