Welcome. Many of the horror stories are results of less maintenance than these great beasts deserve. We have a technical area on the forum with info on high miles service items, etc. Oil change at 5000 miles or less is a good practice, also using the same oil as used in diesel trucks, in 15W40 or 20W50 helps. The diesel rated oil has more cleaning compounds and keeps gunk in suspension longer so filter can trap it. More articles about that in the tech area. Common problem is overheating from any number of common small things, but not knowing it as the heat gauge will read 50% from about 150F to 240F, by the time the gauge starts to rise you have been overheating for quite some time usually. A digital scanner such as an Ultra Gauge can read and reset codes, plus show live data like temp. About $70 US. Front propshaft is another area of common problems, it has sealed grease joints in some parts, when grease leaks out, it splits and pokes a big hole in the transmission quite often. Rebuild info in out tech area for the front propshaft, don't wait until it gives trouble. Vehicle has so many computers on board that it demands a fresh battery, this eliminates lots of electrical gremlins.

Rover is pretty well represented in Africa, not just dealers but also indy shops. Here a pix from the web page of Bush Rover in Nairobi.
