Default Old Rover mechanic

Hello Everyone, I used to work on these from '97 til '02. I worked for a dealership in Pittsburgh called Ascot Imported Cars. Recently friends of mine and I tool a Grand Cherokee and a Colorado to Rausch Creek, a off road driving park. I had so much fun I have been hunting for an '04 Discovery ever since. I know it is going to be a love/hate relationship but I don't care. When these things work they are a sight to behold! If anyone is in the area drop me a line I would love to chat. Thanks, Steve

welcome to the forum Steve. We head out to Rausch a few times a year. Our next trip will be in the Spring. Keep an eye out on the trip section I will post it there once a date is confirmed.

Ya know, I must be a glutton for punishment because I actually do miss working on them. I see you are about 12 hours or so away? Do you really have a hole in the engine block? I have often thought of opening an independent shop but I don't have the guts to do it. I wish you the best of luck in finding a short block or a whole engine for your Rover. (3.9L?) It has the distributor on it still right?

Thanks for posting,

Steve Layton

Why yes, yes it does have a hole in the block where a connecting rod came out to say g'day. I traded my old vw for it that way. I found a block and will go get it after the holidays. Nothing like a good engine swap to start the year. I used to run a boat shop, and always wanted to open my own shop. I share that "fear to fail" and would not want to loose it all. So I stay at my cozy gov job inspecting aircraft maintenance. Would you really let a 12 hour drive stand between you and a rover repair?

I was looking around and I found a thread where Rover mechanics hang out and let people know that they are out there. I know this is vague but I did not sign up yet but I just wanted to let you know that people are out there, you just have to find them. Good luck with fixing your Rover. Steve
