Re: Hello everybody ;)
Hello,
Im Cattiva73,
FYI: I just love Discovery ...I dont have one yet but
Im planning to buy one soon maybe with a lift on it and bigger tires...nothing major just cool looking.
The reason I signed up in advance is because, before I start my search I would like to know:
- What is the best year for the Discovery models?
-Diesel or Gas?
-What should I look for before I buy?
-What is a fear price for a good Disco?
ps: I like 2003 and 2004 years but
Im open to suggestions from experts like you guys.
I'd like to narrow it down to the best and reliable year model based on your experience.
So...Show me what you got and let the suggestions begin
Cheers

Welcome.
Where are you located? If in the US, diesel isn't really an option, unless you happen to find someone who's selling one they've converted.
Personally I prefer Discovery 1's, but plenty of people like DII's.
If you're in the UK, here's a good forum to get info on all of the various model/engine combinations. Land Rover UK Forums
I suggest doing a good search first, however. Most of your questions have been discusses numerous times.

Im in the USA..I found a few diesels that have been converted or imported and I was just wondering if their reliability is better.
Im sure this topic has been discussed before...just trying to get as much info as possibl before I start my search

Thanks
On the converted ones they have to be OBD1 or earlier (1995) to be able to be registered in most places where there are emissions testing. I'm not sure about CA, but I think they have to be original spec regardless. If you live where there are no emissions testing it's not as as much of an issue. So take that in to consideration when looking, and also that it could affect resale value.
Reliability is largely dependent on maintenance, and in the case of conversions, the quality of the conversion and parts used.

the 04's have a differential lock stock equipment. Not sure about the 03 . I don't think does or the option to put one in. My 99 had a diff lock but no way to shift it in so I added a mechanical shifter off of a D1
..ps: the fact that you still have the '99 gives me the impression that '99s are better/more durable.

Thoughts?
