Default Saying "Hi" and looking for info

i moved to colorado a few years ago and drive a rwd hatchback. i *really* need a 4x4 type vehicle (for going to the mountains, winter driving, going on camping trips, etc). i've typically heard very good things about land rovers and wanted to get more information on models, common problems, things to look out for and such.

is there an area of the forum that would best cover these subjects?

btw, i'm thinking older disco, disco II or range rover in the $8k - $14k range. i want something reliable that i don't have to fix all the time. i have mechanical ability and experience working on my car so i would plan to do as much maintenance on it myself as possible.

tia for the help and advice!
