Thinking of jumping from Jeep to a Disco advice please
Noob here (i have been searching the forum just to let you know lol) I have mainly owned Jeeps, but I'm considering getting a disco. I have found a few discos already lifted and slightly modded. I have been searching the internet and here trying to find out the best year disco to buy. Can you please share any advice on best year, model, or any other helpful advice. Thanks for all the help guys!!

Premium gas for sure. They require lots of tinkering. Most get away with not having major fixes. Just maintenance. Fluids changes are a must. Most are neglected so you need to catch up on previous owners neglect. It's not a point and shoot Honda.
If you can afford one buy one w service records. The more maintenance done the better.
I love it for its quirky - ness and the fact that it's NOT a Jeep. It has an overland /safari look to me that I love. It's great off road. Handles well on road. Slow as all hell.
Parts can be had cheap if you know where to look. Most times you have parts in a day or two which requires a bit of planning on repairs. They all have a few common issues that need to be addressed.
If you can do your own maintenance your golden. If not...this will be and expensive project. Stay away from the dealership.
I personally like the D1. Less electronics. Simpler. Shorter. Thicker frame. In my opinion. ...more suited to off road in stock form. The D2 is designed by BMW so naturally they went ahead and over complicated simple problems. I like working on my 4.0. 4.6 engine is very different. There are advantages to both D1 and D2. Just depends on preferences.

I find I get worse mpg on Premium (92 octane 10% ethanol), than when i run 87.
I sell JK's, and I wheel with an XJ and a JK.
I'm bone stock other than adding 32/11.5/15 tires.
I keep up with either (XJ is pretty built, in his defense he can do things I can't/won't, but barring driving over boulders the size of my rig...)
And I definitely prefer my size to a JK 4 dr.
IF I were to do it over again.... same $4k to spend, it'd be another 2004 DiscoII with 120,000 miles.
Although I did just run a 6.4 AEV jk on 4.5" Rubicon Express lift and 35" Trail Grapplers up the freeway today.
It did ride better, was quieter, and definitely more responsive, with better fuel mpg...
But the $86,000 price tag keeps it out of my garage.
