Default transport design student

Hi my name is christopher duff, Iam at the university of Huddersfield and we are currently working with the land rover company, we have been asked to come up with a new design proposal for the new Defender, however before we can come up with a successful design it helps to know who you are designing for and also what considerations, lifestyle they have. This allows us to design a car aimed at a specific market.

What I would like if possible is any information regarding your land rover, why you own one, what its like to own one, your needs and cosiderations any information would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

hey man. for what its worth im an 18 year old american, and i recently picked up my Rover for the sole purpose of its ability to go where most vehicles cant. i guess you could say im ab out doors kind of guy. i come from a long line of them.

anywho, back to busniess. dont get me wrong, the new rovers these days are pretty sweet. but they're showing signs of going the same route most other SUVs and aiming toward the suburban-soccer(football?)-mom-market. right now Rover's doing a good job at giving the best of both worlds. what with all those fancy suspensions and whatnot. the defender on the other had strikes me as something that should keep things a bit more simple. im not sure what aspect of design you're working on, but whether its mechanical or styling. keep it simple. solid axles are sweet. and dont have any of those body lines that serve no purpose, they suck ***.

and one more thing, brining it to the states would be awsome, ill probably be able to afford one by the time it hits production.

good luck

Chris, it is worth your while visiting www.landrovernet.com had a few other peeps like yourself asking the same questions in the past, in fact i think one was from Huddersfield as well..

At the moment your question is quite general, so the general answer is, have a Land Rover for it's towing ability, easy of repair and mainetance, and it's off road ability. But I am a more practical person who was brought up on a moors farm in Yorkshire and have only used Landies as workhorses, rather than a school run mobile.. Which is why I have a defender and a series one..

Have you read your history yet on Land Rover, if you read the History it gives you some good lessons as to what works and what doesn't. Also take a look at santana, as the newest landie they have produced is still based on the old series 3 with leaf springs etc, and find out why they have done this.

hi its chris duff again, to those guys who posted back, your infrormation helped a great deal, my original idea was to keep the styling simple, and also the mechanics, your e-mails have helped me justify my styling direction and the way me and my group will approach our design.

cheers chris
