Default action camera or not?....experience... advice...

want to get one can't figure out which one. I would like to use it for work as well. tons of photos at work(2k-5k uploaded on some days). I currently use nikon v1, d80, and 3x.........not so much for the photo quality features,at work, but for the speed of frame capture... this is nice because like photog as a after work hobby as well....
my needs at work=
1.smaller image sizing at capture res... web image only , need speedy upload and no time to resize. 1936x1296 is the largest I want at work, would like vga.
2.built in gps....I need to start geocoding all work photos. my reason for new.
3. MINIMAL shutter lag...that is why I don't use point and shoots
4. small body, also why I moved to the v1, but flash is a little big
5. low light photo capture quality. might be a no go with action cams

so can an action camera fit my needs? I have no experience with these, but seems it would be fun for out of work stuff too.
gopro has no gps so its out
possibilities are virb elite/ contour+2/ sony action cams/ prolly others, dunno

I may be asking too much outta one product and need keep work and pleasure separate.
I would just go to competitive camera and ask but I always end up spending money on stuff I do not need, there......sneaky salesmen

thanks for any input

Dusty, I would love to help but what you are saying leads me to believe you certainly know more about cameras and their usage than I do. I use an old Canon EOS 3 roll film type for black & white, a Canon 450D with the same lenses and a Canon IXUS for snaps, it gets used to death 'cos it's very small and light. As for geo-location, I have never needed it and I don't know what camera would have the function available. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Yeah, thanks. I kind of figure most people that use the action cams probably never bother with the still photo features. I guess I'll have to go to the camera shop and let them have there way with me.

SuperSport is pretty clued up on techno kit I'm surprised he doesn't chip in with some valid ideas. He's usually well up there when it comes to electronic wizardry I seems.

Have you tried the photography websites and clubs they just may have some new kit emerging in front of the market.

What do you use the camera kit for at work as it seems pretty advanced kit?

Not this!...................... http://www.google.fr/imgres?imgurl=h...QEwAg&dur=1163

Yep looking on all the sites.
I document all my jobs/work progress/ bids/ evaluations on several job sites.
Construction co. And a portion of my work is dealing with insurance jobs. The geocoding should help me keep that documentation sorted. There tends to be occasional confusion as the info gets passed along. I plan to test the system out with the Geo tagging and if all is well I'll go ahead and get some for my guys.

Sheeeesh, I thought I'd got it wrong and you were making modern versions of this Résultats Google Recherche d'images correspondant à http://wodumedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Harlan-Maguire-Jude-Law-is-a-crime-scene-photographer-who-specializes-in-shooting-murder-victims-in-DreamWorks-Pictures-and-Twentieth-Century-Foxs

Back in the 70's, 80's and 90's when I was in the onshore/offshore construction game as a project manager and construction manager I certainly could have used modern techno kit like that particularly when it involved upstream and downstream contractor/sub contractor claims. Back then we didn't even have digital and certainly no computers. The Chevron Ninian Central and Phillips Maureen jobs were fraught with problems and claims. Hey ho, all a long time ago now, can't change history.

my work photos aren't nearly that exciting. mostly construction details and faults and the occasional action shot like this;

trying to keep up with tech but I still remember the days of roofing houses the hammer and nail way. I would be hard pressed to find a hammer on a roof job these days. pull a hand plane out of the bag and get funny looks

Yep, I know what you mean Dusty, over here they have never heard of Paslode

or these very much

but they still use these or similar shape

and often these

instead of these

It's often an education in the past century watching them build houses, no wonder they cost so much disproportionately.

One would not be surprised to see them arrive like this
